The Fretstool by Kwaku Boateng, is part of the 'Fretwork' collection – debuted by Triqis Studio at the London Design Festival, 2024.
The Fretwork collection is inspired by the Gingerbread houses of Trinidad’s capital, Port-of-Spain. The houses’ wooden structures, influenced by the French and British eras, left an indelible mark on the city, their intricate, magnificent designs, captivating Boateng during his childhood spent growing up and exploring the twin island State.
The Fretstool is an elegant piece of furniture. Its stainless steel chair comprising three parts, boasting a hand brushed finish, sturdily held together by two genuine cowhide leather straps.
Encapsulated by dense 5mm thick steel, Its raw steel nature imparts a distinct character, bearing minor bumps and scratches that not only add to its unique allure but also contribute to its rugged industrial aesthetic. The chair’s profile and form, references the architecture of these buildings, more specifically the gracefully cascading arches, proudly perched at the entrance of these stately homes of a bygone era.
The silver chair comes in two colour options; black-brown and bourbon cowhide leather straps. The purposeful use of genuine leather, and stainless steel, is that these materials age gracefully, giving character, unique to its owner’s specific use.
